About the Workshop

Hand carving wax is a fun and intuitive technique to create many types of wedding bands. This process lends itself to organic forms, a band flush with your engagement ring, bands that have a visual or physical connection, intricate detailing and more.

The Process

Unlike the fabrication workshop, this workshop is three-fold:

First, you and your partner come to my studio and with wax files, wolf wax carving tools, wax saw blades, sand paper and other jeweler's tools, you carve each other's rings out of wax.

Second, I will have your bands cast by a local, expert jewelry caster in the precious metal alloy of your choice. When the wax rings are complete, a safety mold can be made of each band. This ensures that if the ring is ever lost or stolen that another can be made in its likeness.

Third, once cast, the metal must be finished or finalized by either sanding, polishing, or both. You two will have the choice of either having me complete this process or visiting my studio for a second time to take a short polishing workshop.

Keep in mind that due to the nature of a more intensive process, rings initially carved out of wax will be completely finished within 2-3 weeks of the initial workshop date if no extra elements are desired or 4-5 weeks if they are.

Custom Stone Setting, Design, and Fabrication
Cost will vary upon design

I love a challenge. If you would like a band that goes beyond the conventional style I will problem solve, design, create, fuse, and deliver a solution through the sixteen plus years of my metalsmithing background and tool box. Due to the individual nature of each ring, the amount of time and skill will vary depending on your desired design.

Metal Samples & Sourcing

A word about sourcing. All of my metal is 100% recycled, from a provider that has been an eco conscious refinery for over one hundred years, and is the first refinery to regularly carry Fairmined precious metal. I am committed to supporting Portland's local artisans. That is why all precious metal casting and stone setting is done by the best professionals within Portland, Oregon proper.
